Con la mitad de voto escrutado, Alejandro Guillier se impone en el voto extranjero
39.137 estuvieron habilitados para votar en el extranjero, según el Padrón Electoral Definitivo, publicado el 20 de septiembre de 2017. A esta hora, la mayoría de las mesas ubicadas en las embajadas extranjeras ya están cerradas y con el recuento de votos listo.
Con el 47% escrutado, equivalente a 8.566 votos, un 28,87% votó por Sebastián Piñera (2.473 votos) mientras que un 71,1% fue por Alejandro Guillier (6.093 votos). Los votos nulos fueron del 1% (99 votos), mientras que los que quedaron en blanco fueron un 0,6% (63 votos).
El ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Heraldo Muñoz, calificó como “un ejemplo” la participación de los chilenos en el exterior durante el balotaje y destacó que las mesas cerradas se obtuvo un 63% de participación, "lo que implica una mejora respecto al 60% de la primera vuelta", dijo. Sin embargo, precisó que la evaluación final de los sufragios en el exterior se realizará cuando se tenga los resultados de Europa y se constituyan las mesas en América Latina.
La autoridad llamó -mediante un comunicado- “a las chilenas y chilenos aquí en Chile a seguir el ejemplo de nuestros compatriotas en el exterior, que viajan cientos de kilómetros algunos de ellos para ejercer su derecho a elegir quien va a dirigir el futuro de nuestro país”.
